The Tiruvallur District Police have dismantled a significant ganja supply chain, arresting two men involved in smuggling large quantities of the drug into Tamil Nadu from other states.
According to police, several individuals originally from Tamil Nadu, working in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, were acting as intermediaries between cultivators and buyers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Acting on a tip-off, officers apprehended Y. Rajan (40) from Kurichi, Coimbatore, and Sidhish Kora (34) from Padua, Koraput, Odisha, in possession of 25.3 kg of ganja. Investigations revealed that they regularly procured ganja from Odisha and transported it to Tamil Nadu.
Police said Rajan initially traveled to Odisha to purchase ganja, and during a previous arrest in Visakhapatnam, he made contacts with more suppliers. He later settled in Koraput and began serving as an intermediary for drug peddlers from Tamil Nadu visiting Odisha.
Vivekananda Shukla, Superintendent of Police, Tiruvallur, stated: “This operation has disrupted a major inter-State ganja supply chain. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend others involved in this narcotics network.”
