Over three years after 30-year-old Justin Peoples was shot and stabbed at a gas station in Tracy, California, two individuals have been sentenced for his racially motivated murder.
Christina Lyn Garner was sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison and remanded to the California Central Women’s Facility. Jeremy Wayne Jones received a sentence of 27 years to life and was remanded to the California Department of Corrections. Both were credited with 1,343 days for time already served.
Garner and Jones were convicted of first-degree murder with hate crime enhancements for the March 2022 killing of Peoples, a Black Navy veteran and father of two. Authorities reported that Peoples was attacked at a Chevron station along North Tracy Boulevard, suffering multiple gunshot and stab wounds, and died hours later at a hospital.
Prosecutors noted that both Garner and Jones had prior affiliations with white supremacist groups. Evidence included Jones’ tattoos displaying swastikas and the words “white pride.”
A third person, Christopher Dimenco, was charged as an accessory in the case in 2022 and previously pleaded guilty. Peoples’ family consistently described him as a devoted father, while law enforcement called the murder a “senseless act of violence.”
