CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A routine lawn mowing job in Laramie County has resulted in felony charges after a Cheyenne resident allegedly stole a client’s checkbook and forged one of the checks.
Rosando Paul Carabajal Sr., 54, also known as “Seno,” is facing charges of forgery and theft following the August incident. According to a Cheyenne Police Department affidavit, Carabajal insisted that a man who tried to cash the check, Pete Gonzales, “had nothing to do with the incident.”
Police were called on Aug. 26 after the homeowner reported that he had paid Carabajal $20 in cash for mowing his lawn. During the visit, the homeowner noticed Carabajal writing on a piece of paper covering the checkbook. When the homeowner stepped out to fetch a drink, the checkbook later went missing.
The homeowner’s bank notified him on Sept. 9 that Gonzales had attempted to deposit one of the stolen checks. The signature on the check did not match the homeowner’s and appeared to be a forgery.
Carabajal told police he frequently has checks made out to Gonzales, who cashes them as a favor, and emphasized that Gonzales was not involved in the theft. Gonzales confirmed receiving the check from Carabajal before attempting to deposit it.
Carabajal’s bond was set at $2,000. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
