In a decisive anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested junior engineer Ajay Babbarwal from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. He was caught accepting a Rs 10 lakh bribe from a contractor seeking to expedite the clearance of pending bills worth nearly Rs 3 crore.
The arrest, conducted on November 11, was the result of a meticulously planned operation following a complaint against Babbarwal. This incident has unveiled further allegations of illicit payments involving senior municipal officials.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the CBI has registered an FIR against Executive Engineer RC Sharma and Assistant Engineer Navin Kaul. Searches at their residences led to the seizure of significant cash, luxury jewelry, and property-related documents, pointing to a larger network of corrupt practices within the municipal administration.
