In a major crackdown, the police and Anti-Narcotics Task Force apprehended Saurabh Kumar Soni, 24, in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, after recovering 390 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 78 lakh.
The arrest followed a tip-off regarding the movement of an illicit drug consignment from Anpara in the Sonbhadra district. Acting swiftly, authorities intercepted Soni at a blockade and seized the narcotics along with a motorcycle and a mobile phone.
Circle Officer Amit Kumar confirmed that Soni has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation is being hailed as a significant step in curbing drug trafficking in the region.
Police officials continue investigations to identify the source and intended recipients of the seized heroin.
