Sambalpur Shopkeeper Arrested for Killing Bull

Bull attacked over bread packet in Malipada area

A Sambalpur shopkeeper has been arrested for allegedly killing a bull that ate a packet of bread from his grocery store in the Malipada area, under Hirakud police station.

The accused, Shiva Mohanty (55), a resident of Old Market, Hirakud, reportedly attacked the bull with a knife around 1:45 PM after the animal consumed bread worth approximately Rs 20 from his shop.

Local resident Bikash Chandra Behera filed a complaint with the Hirakud police, prompting authorities to register a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (Case No. 325 BNS/11 (A)).

A veterinary team rushed to the scene to attend to the injured bull, but the animal succumbed to excessive bleeding from the attack.

The incident has sparked outrage among locals and animal welfare activists, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws.
