TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — A former Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) School Resource deputy, Bill Culpepper, 56, has entered a guilty plea to federal firearms charges, according to court records.

Culpepper and his son, Garret Culpepper, 25, were arrested in March 2025 on marijuana trafficking charges and later indicted in federal court.

Federal court documents show that Bill Culpepper pleaded guilty last week to two counts: possession of an illegal machine gun and possession of an unregistered firearm.

Culpepper faces up to 10 years in federal prison and is scheduled for sentencing on January 20, 2026. His attorney, Tim Jansen, declined to comment on the plea.

Garret Culpepper remains under federal indictment for drug distribution and weapons charges, with his trial scheduled for December 2, 2025.

Both father and son also face pending state drug charges. Prosecutor Sara Hassler said, “Those charges are still pending until there is a final resolution in their federal cases. Then we’ll make a decision about what’s appropriate.”

Authorities continue to pursue both the federal and state cases against the Culpeppers.
