Katherine Curtis Faces New Fraud Charges in Carmel

Nurse practitioner accused of false theft and fraud

by Sophia Bennett

CARMEL, Ind. — Police say the criminal case against Katherine Curtis, a 34-year-old nurse practitioner from Carmel, continues to expand as investigators uncover multiple layers of fraud and deception.

Curtis, who already faces nearly 30 felony charges tied to alleged prescription fraud through her business, Reclaim Wellness, was recently ordered held on a $200,000 bond. Investigators say she illegally prescribed and distributed controlled substances to patients across Indiana.

“We’re committed to keeping illegal narcotics off the streets, no matter the source,” said IMPD Lt. Justin Gough.

But new court documents reveal Curtis’s alleged crimes go far beyond prescription fraud. Carmel police say she also attempted insurance fraud and filed false theft reports.

On October 6, Curtis reported a burglary at her home on Rosemary Gardens, claiming thieves stole around $25,000 worth of luxury items, including Louis Vuitton accessories and $6,250 in cash.

However, detectives soon found inconsistencies. Curtis had filed an insurance claim the same day, reporting different items — including two Apple computers — with a total claim of $31,190. The policy itself had been opened less than two weeks before the alleged burglary.

Investigators later discovered many of the “stolen” items still in Curtis’s possession or returned to the Louis Vuitton store. Photos of the items, taken minutes before Curtis called police, were also found on her phone, along with images sent to the insurance company days after the supposed burglary.

As a result, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office filed six new charges against Curtis, including two counts of fraud and two counts of obstruction of justice, both Level 6 felonies.

Court records show Curtis had posted bond for her earlier drug-related charges on October 30, but she was arrested again just days later for these latest offenses. She is currently held without bond and awaits an initial hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
