The main suspect in the murder of journalist Lakshmi Narayan Singh, also known as Pappu, was arrested late Thursday night following a police encounter in Prayagraj, officials confirmed Friday.
Singh, 54, a journalist and nephew of former High Court Bar Association chief Ashok Singh, was brutally attacked near the Harsh Hotel on Thursday evening. He was immediately rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in critical condition, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Pal Sharma stated that evidence from the crime scene, along with eyewitness accounts, revealed that Vishal and several accomplices carried out the attack. Reports indicate that Vishal had purchased a knife from Machhli Bazaar in Khuldabad, which was used in the assault.
During a late-night encounter near the crime scene, Vishal was shot three times in the legs and has since been admitted to a hospital. Authorities are actively searching for another suspect involved, while two others have been detained for questioning.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a recent personal dispute between Vishal and Singh may have triggered the attack, though police continue to probe the exact motive.
