In a significant drug bust, Maharashtra police arrested a Nigerian national after seizing mephedrone worth Rs 42.8 lakh from him in Palghar district, officials said on Wednesday, as reported by news agency PTI.
During a routine patrol on October 11, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Cell noticed the man acting suspiciously near a cricket club ground in the Nallasopara area. Upon questioning and search, police found 214 grams of mephedrone (MD), a synthetic stimulant banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused, identified as 45-year-old Kalu Bassey Chukwuemeka, a resident of Pragati Nagar in Nallasopara, was arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, police in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar seized more than 18,000 bottles of codeine syrup, an addictive drug, and arrested two individuals from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat linked to its supply, officials said on Wednesday.
