CASS COUNTY, Ill. – Five individuals have been arrested in connection with ongoing drug and burglary investigations in Cass County. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Central Illinois Enforcement Group (CIEG), made the arrests after a series of methamphetamine sales and thefts were uncovered.
Arrests and Charges
- Derek Mitchell, 36, of Beardstown was arrested on residential burglary and felony theft charges after his involvement in recent burglaries.
- Brooke Johnson, 34, also of Beardstown, faces charges for the unlawful delivery of 15-100 grams of methamphetamine.
- James Whitis, 44, another Beardstown resident, was arrested for unlawful delivery of methamphetamine in two separate amounts: 100-400 grams and less than 5 grams.
- Jerrod Jones, 45, of Beardstown, was arrested on three counts of methamphetamine delivery for amounts less than 5 grams.
- Charles Swarringin, 40, a resident of Greene County, was arrested by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office on a Cass County warrant for two counts of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine (15-100 grams) and one count of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine (5-15 grams).
The suspects are currently being held in the Menard and Greene County Jails.
Investigation and Joint Effort
The arrests come after an investigation into methamphetamine distribution and burglaries in Cass County. Local authorities have credited the joint effort between the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Central Illinois Enforcement Group (CIEG) for the success of the operation. CIEG is a collaborative task force made up of deputies from Cass, Christian, Logan, Morgan, and Sangamon Counties, as well as officers from local police departments and the Illinois State Police.
Authorities continue to investigate, and further arrests may follow as the case develops. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug sales or burglaries.
