Guwahati, Assam – In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested Maisnam Riten Kumar Singh, Executive Director and Regional Officer of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Guwahati, in connection with a Rs10 lakh bribery case.

According to CBI officials, Singh allegedly demanded a bribe from a private company in exchange for issuing a favourable extension of time (EOT) and completion certificate for the company’s work on the four-laning project of NH-37 between Demow and End of Moran Bypass in Assam.

The CBI also arrested Binod Kumar Jain, a representative of Kolkata-based firm Mohan Lal Jain, in the same case.

Searches were conducted across seven office and residential premises of both accused at multiple locations across India. During the searches, the CBI seized:

Rs2.62 crore in cash

Documents related to nine landed properties and 20 apartments owned by Singh and his family

Papers related to the purchase of luxury vehicles in Singh’s name

A CBI spokesperson confirmed that the verification of both movable and immovable assets belonging to the public servant is currently underway.

Both Singh and Jain are scheduled to be produced before the Special CBI Court in Guwahati.
