Des Moines, Iowa — A Polk County jury has found an Altoona man guilty of sexually abusing a young child over several years, the Polk County Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.
After about three hours of deliberation, jurors convicted 40-year-old Kenney Ryan Hunsley of four counts of second-degree sexual abuse involving a child under the age of 12. Each count carries a potential 25-year sentence, meaning Hunsley could face up to 100 years in prison. He will be sentenced at a later date.
According to investigators, the abuse occurred between January 2014 and September 2021 and was reported in July 2024. Court records show the victim, who was 14 years old when she came forward, told police that Hunsley sexually assaulted her repeatedly from the ages of five to eleven.
Authorities praised the victim’s courage in reporting the abuse and said the conviction ensures accountability for a years-long pattern of exploitation.
Hunsley remains in custody pending sentencing.
