GREENWICH, CT — A New York man has been arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle incident that occurred earlier this year in the Riverside Commons Shopping Center in Greenwich.

On May 2, 2024, the Greenwich Police Department responded to a vehicle theft report after two male suspects approached the car’s owner and passenger at the McDonald’s on E Putnam Avenue. The suspects, pretending to need help charging their phone, asked the vehicle’s occupants for assistance and requested a ride to a nearby train station.

After gaining entry to the vehicle under false pretenses, the group drove to the Riverside Shopping Center, where the vehicle owner exited to visit a store. The suspects then coerced the passenger to leave the car before fleeing the scene with the vehicle.

An extensive investigation led police to identify Gregory Jefferson, a resident of The Bronx, NY, as one of the suspects involved in the theft. Based on the investigation, the Greenwich Police obtained an arrest warrant for Jefferson on multiple charges, including:

  • Risk of Injury to a Child
  • Burglary 1st Degree
  • Larceny 1st Degree
  • Robbery 2nd Degree
  • Assault 3rd Degree
  • Related Conspiracy Charges

Jefferson was apprehended in New York, and following extradition proceedings, Greenwich Police took custody of Jefferson on November 7, 2024, at the George R. Vierno Center on Riker’s Island. He was then transported back to Connecticut.

Jefferson’s bond has been set at $175,000, and he is now awaiting judicial proceedings for the multiple charges he faces.

As with all criminal defendants, Jefferson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
