BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — Trenton Frye was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday after being found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Katlyn Lyon Montgomery, in 2022.
Frye was convicted of first-degree murder in April 2025 following a jury trial in Bedford County Circuit Court.
Authorities said Montgomery was discovered dead in her Forest, Virginia home on October 7, 2022. Investigators later confirmed she had been strangled.
Frye, who had fled the state, was arrested nearly two weeks later in Greensboro, North Carolina, and initially charged with second-degree murder.
Evidence presented at trial revealed that Frye and Montgomery had argued over text messages on the night she was killed.
The trial began on March 31, and after just one hour of jury deliberation on April 4, Frye was found guilty.
He will serve a life-long prison sentence for the crime.
