MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. — A Floyd County man is behind bars after being arrested on meth trafficking and multiple other charges in Magoffin County early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to an arrest citation from Magoffin County Sheriff’s Deputy N. Watson, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 13 when deputies responded to a possible overdose at Back Branch in Salyersville.

While en route, Deputy Watson and Deputy T. Lafferty spotted Robert Lee Spradlin, 44, of Auxier Avenue in Auxier, walking along a gravel driveway carrying a flashlight. Spradlin reportedly got into the passenger side of a nearby vehicle as deputies approached.

Moments later, the individual who had allegedly overdosed came up the driveway, yelling that Spradlin and a female driver had entered his home without permission and that several items were missing, including the flashlight.

Deputies said Spradlin began searching the vehicle for one of the missing items. When asked to exit the vehicle, he became combative and uncooperative, prompting Deputy Lafferty to forcibly remove him.

During the struggle, Spradlin dropped a box containing about 4 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a snorting straw with white residue, according to the report.

Spradlin was taken to the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville, where he was booked on the following charges:

First-degree trafficking in methamphetamine (≥2 grams, first offense)

Resisting arrest

Menacing

Tampering with physical evidence

The Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
