Leona Johnston Arrested in Stone County for Attempted Murder

Polk County suspect captured after regional alert

STONE COUNTY, Mo. — A woman wanted in Polk County for attempted murder has been located and arrested in Stone County following a regional law enforcement alert.

According to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County authorities issued an alert that 39-year-old Leona Johnston was believed to be in the Cape Fair Curves or Edgewater area of Stone County. Johnston was being sought as a suspect in an attempted murder investigation.

Deputies quickly responded to the alert and successfully located and detained Johnston without incident.

According to Polk County Jail records, Johnston is now in custody and faces charges of 1st Degree Domestic Assault and Armed Criminal Action.

Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged incident, but the investigation remains ongoing.
