Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra – October 14: The Pathardi police arrested 30-year-old Sachin Maindad on October 8 for the gruesome murder of his 75-year-old grandmother, Kisnabai Maindad, whose body was found in Miri village on May 8.
The murder, initially registered against an unidentified person, shocked the local community due to its brutality — Kisnabai was stoned to death and set on fire inside her home. The case took a major turn after months of investigation, revealing a family feud over money as the motive.
According to Inspector Vilas Pujari of the Pathardi police station, Kisnabai had sold a plot of land for Rs12 lakh and had distributed ₹5 lakh each to her two grandsons. However, she made a fixed deposit of Rs1.8 lakh, naming only her younger grandson as the nominee — a decision that allegedly enraged Sachin.
Earlier in January, during a visit to Sachin’s home for Makar Sankranti, he reportedly assaulted her severely and refused medical treatment, leaving her back at her home in pain. The victim’s daughter, Chhaya Khose, later got her mother hospitalized and later shared this information with police.
On May 8, a neighbour who was asked to check on Kisnabai after she stopped answering phone calls discovered her charred body with head injuries. The police quickly ruled out robbery, noting that no valuables were stolen and the attack appeared personal and filled with hatred.
After connecting the dots — including the land sale, prior abuse, and nomination issue — police arrested Sachin Maindad, a truck operator from Malwadi, Vadgaon. He confessed during interrogation, stating he committed the murder on the night of May 6.
Sachin has been booked for murder under IPC Section 302, and further legal proceedings are underway.
