by Ananya Mehta

A swift and targeted police operation in Banderdewa led to the arrest of two individuals allegedly involved in heroin trafficking, late on the night of October 9.

Acting on a credible tip-off, a police team intercepted the suspects at around 10:40 PM in the local market area. The operation was supervised by SP Nyelam Nega (Naharlagun) and led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, with the support of SI Koj Tada, Head Constable Tade Bomdom, and Constables Rinchin Tsering and Udipta Gogoi.

The two arrested men have been identified as:

Samir Ali (21) from Lakhimpur district, Assam

Saddam Hussain (30) from Nagaon district, Assam

Police recovered 50.03 grams of suspected heroin, concealed in four soap cases, from their possession.

A case has been registered as Banderdewa PS Case No. 70/25, invoking:

Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act,

Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the narcotics and dismantle the larger supply chain possibly operating across state lines.

The arrest highlights the growing concern around drug trafficking routes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, and the proactive steps law enforcement is taking to curb it.
