Police say drug money linked to Pakistan smuggler network

FEROZEPUR: In a major blow to cross-border drug smuggling, Ferozepur police have arrested two drug peddlers with 5 kilograms of heroin and Rs29,16,700 in suspected hawala drug money.

The accused have been identified as:

Sajan (25), a resident of Basti Awa, under Ferozepur City police station.

Resham (23), also known as Vishal, from Naurange Leliwala, under Ferozepur Sadar police station.

Police also seized two mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the drug trafficking operation.

According to Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, the arrests were made following week-long surveillance and intelligence gathering. Investigations suggest the duo were linked to Pakistan-based smuggler Sah Pathan, known for pushing heroin consignments into India via the Punjab border.

“The arrests have helped expose a Pakistan-backed supply chain and break a vital link in the cross-border drug network,” said SSP Sidhu.

Sajan is a repeat offender, with five NDPS cases already registered against him. Authorities believe the recovered cash may have been hawala proceeds connected to the smuggling syndicate.

Police are now tracking other associates, and more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
