In a notable crackdown on real estate fraud, Goa Police on Friday arrested three individuals for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs9.7 lakh under the pretense of selling land belonging to the Cunchelim comunidade.

According to North Goa Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta, the complainant, Rinki Rajesh Jha—a resident of Cunchelim—filed a report stating that before June 10, 2025, three individuals induced her to purchase a 270-square-meter plot in Cunchelim. The accused were identified as Sumit Fadte (34) of Cunchelim, Raju Mandrekar (50) of Camurlim, and Rajaj Anthony (43) of Karaswada.

The trio allegedly carried out financial transactions and assured her of allotting the land. However, after receiving the payment, they failed to transfer the legal ownership of the property and did not refund the amount, effectively cheating her out of Rs9.7 lakh.

SP Rahul Gupta confirmed that all three accused have been arrested and are currently in police custody. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Mapusa and were remanded to four days of police custody for further investigation.
