In a chilling case from Lucknow, 20-year-old Nikhil Yadav, also known as Golu, has been arrested for murdering his mother, Reshma Yadav (45), after she caught him stealing jewellery to settle debts from online betting and gaming.
Initially, Nikhil tried to mislead police by faking a robbery, claiming that both he and his mother were attacked by intruders. However, police investigations revealed the truth — a story of addiction, debt, and a brutal crime within the family.
The murder occurred on October 3 in the Kalli area of Lucknow. Nikhil, addicted to the betting game “Aviator” on the platform tirangagamee.games, had lost large sums of money. To repay debts, he took multiple high-interest loans via apps like M Pokket, Flash Wallet, and RAM Fincorp.
When his mother caught him stealing gold jewellery, a violent argument erupted. In a fit of rage, Nikhil allegedly bludgeoned her to death. He then staged the scene to look like a robbery and falsely called his father, claiming they were attacked by unknown assailants.
Police recovered stolen jewellery and uncovered the truth through technical surveillance and CCTV footage. During questioning, Nikhil confessed, admitting panic led him to commit the crime.
According to DCP Nipun Agarwal, Nikhil has been booked under BNS Sections:
