MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. — Two Miami men have been arrested in Hart County following a scam involving a victim’s debit card.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint last Friday from an Uber driver who had been instructed to deliver a suspicious package.

Authorities reported that the package, a white envelope marked “fraud,” was placed into a bag and delivered to the parking lot of R & S Salvage. The driver handed it over to two men in a vehicle with Florida license plates.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and noticed a strong smell of marijuana. The men inside were identified as 26-year-old Nickerson Baptiste and 30-year-old Gallego Entienne, both from Miami.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office contacted the scam victim, who said she had been contacted multiple times that day by someone instructing her to send her debit card for “investigation.”

Realizing she had been scammed, the victim reported the incident to law enforcement.

Baptiste and Entienne were arrested and charged with theft by extortion (over $10,000), possession of marijuana, and receipt of a credit card in violation of Kentucky statutes KRS 434.570 and 434.610.

Both men remain in the Hart County Jail awaiting further proceedings.
