Authorities in Bhiwandi town, Thane district, are probing a significant fraud case involving a local co-operative credit society. Two individuals, including a woman named Ritu Sandeep Singh and a man named Rajan Shukla, allegedly obtained loans totaling Rs 28.30 lakh by mortgaging fake jewellery.
The scam came to light when the credit society in Kalher area verified the pledged ornaments and found them counterfeit. Following a complaint filed by the society, police have launched an investigation to locate the accused and recover the defrauded amount.
The case has been registered under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further inquiry is ongoing.
