Cyber wing cracks multi-crore police recruitment racket

by Ananya Mehta

The cyber wing of the State Crime Branch arrested Arabinda Das (43) from Nabara village, Balasore district, in connection with the ongoing multi-crore Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.

Das was taken into custody following sustained interrogation and the seizure of several incriminating materials. He was subsequently produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (Rural), Berhampur. The investigation into the scam remains active.

This arrest follows the earlier detention of 117 suspects by Berhampur police on September 30. Authorities continue to hunt for the key masterminds behind the racket, including Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty.

The scam was exposed when police intercepted a convoy of three luxury buses carrying candidates and middlemen en route to Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh, for special coaching sessions for the SI exam. The police stopped the buses at the Andhra-Odisha border based on a tip-off.

In the wake of this scandal, the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) has postponed the written examination for the Police Sub-Inspector posts, originally scheduled for October 5 and 6.
