Jammu police on Sunday arrested Tej Pal Singh, a resident of Mangnar village in Poonch and currently living in Trikuta Nagar extension, for allegedly murdering his wife. The case, initially recorded as a natural death, has now been officially classified as a homicide after a detailed investigation.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged on September 26 by Singh’s sister-in-law, Sabina Sunuwar, who reported suspicious circumstances around the death of her sister, Simriti. According to the complaint, Singh took Simriti for medical treatment on August 26 but returned the next day with her body. He then hurriedly cremated her without conducting a postmortem or informing authorities, raising suspicions of foul play.

Sabina alleged that Simriti was subjected to cruelty and bore ligature marks on her neck. Financial disputes between the couple over the purchase of a house were also highlighted. The complainant provided photographic evidence supporting these claims.

Following the complaint, an FIR under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Bahu Fort Police Station. A professional investigation team, including forensic science experts and crime photographers, inspected the rented accommodation and gathered critical evidence. Witness statements further aided the probe, culminating in Singh’s arrest.

The police praised the teamwork and scientific methods that helped uncover the truth behind the suspicious death.
