Barmer/Jaisalmer, Sept 29: As part of a special anti-narcotics campaign, police from Gudamalani station and the District Special Team (DST) carried out two major operations in the Ramgarh area of Jaisalmer district on Saturday, seizing a total of 341 kilograms of illegal poppy husk.
Out of the seized quantity, 243 kilograms were recovered in Barmer, while 98 kilograms were confiscated in Jaisalmer. The estimated market value of the contraband in the international drug trade is around Rs 50 lakh.
Barmer Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena stated that following a tip-off, Gudamalani Station Officer Devichand Dhaka and the DST raided a field in Junjharam Jat village near Ramnagar Mehlu. The police discovered 11 black bags of poppy husk weighing 242 kilograms hidden in a tractor trolley under a Rohida tree amidst millet crops. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gudamalani police station. Preliminary investigations point to Tararam, son of Bhagaram Jat of Ramnagar Mehlu, as a prime suspect.
In a simultaneous operation led by Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare, Ramgarh police seized 97 kilograms of poppy husk, 260 grams of opium milk, and arrested the accused. A detailed probe is ongoing.
Police have instructed all station officers in the districts to intensify action against drug trafficking networks to curb narcotics-related crimes.
