RALEIGH, NC — North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of Nolan Craig Bourgeois Jr., 28, of John Street, Clayton, on a charge of felony insurance fraud.
According to the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Bourgeois is accused of falsely telling United Services Automobile Association (USAA) that he was not involved in a February 20 car accident where his truck reportedly rear-ended another vehicle.
However, the other driver involved in the incident provided authorities with photos of Bourgeois’ truck and driver’s license, which were allegedly shared at the scene of the crash—directly contradicting Bourgeois’ claim.
Following his arrest, Bourgeois was issued a $10,000 secured bond.
Commissioner Causey emphasized the wider impact of insurance fraud, stating:
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime. It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums. I encourage citizens to report suspicious activity.”
The case remains under investigation, and authorities encourage anyone with information about potential fraud to contact the NC Department of Insurance.
