Detectives in Nairobi have arrested Daniel Wangombe Ndungu, a suspected mastermind behind a SIM card fraud operation, after a tip-off from the public led to his arrest in Membley, Ruiru.
Wangombe, believed to be involved in fraudulent SIM card registration and phone impersonation, was intercepted by police while driving a Nissan Salon, with vehicle registration number KBP 731D. Upon searching his car, authorities recovered 6 Safaricom SIM cards, 7 Airtel SIM cards, 2 Telkom SIM cards, and several mobile phones.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) praised the swift action, crediting a public tip-off for leading to the suspect’s capture. Wangombe has been taken to the DCI Serious Crime Unit for further processing, with his arraignment pending.
This bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb SIM card fraud, which has become a growing concern in the region, with authorities working to prevent the illegal use of mobile networks for criminal activities.
