TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Darius Avant, 23, was arrested and charged following an attempted sexual assault on a woman walking home Tuesday night near Arbor Station Lane, according to court records.
The victim, 25, was followed from Barnes & Noble and tackled from behind by Avant as she turned onto Arbor Station Lane. During the struggle, Avant tried to steal her wallet and phone and pulled her pants down to her knees. The victim fought back and screamed for help.
A nearby man heard the cries, grabbed his gun, and fired a warning shot at Avant’s foot to stop him as he chased the victim. Avant then fled by climbing a fence.
Police arrived and attempted to apprehend Avant, who resisted and ran toward Fulton Road. Officers eventually used a taser to detain him.
Avant faces charges including attempted sexual assault, robbery, false imprisonment, resisting an officer without violence, and criminal mischief. Though bond was granted, he remains in jail as of Friday afternoon.
