A Michigan woman, Betsy McIntyre, 69, of Irons, has been sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. McIntyre was convicted in the stabbing death of her husband on May 11, 2025.
Initially charged with first-degree murder, McIntyre admitted to stabbing her husband 14 times. The case was prosecuted by the Michigan Department of Attorney General, which stepped in after the Lake County prosecuting attorney resigned in June. The department will continue to oversee prosecutions until the vacancy is filled.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel expressed hope that the sentence brings justice for the victim’s family and emphasized the importance of continued resources for prosecution efforts in the state.
