The State GST department has launched a stringent crackdown on tax evasion in Guwahati’s bustling commercial hub, Fancy Bazar. On Monday, officials initiated investigations into two business establishments, Shiva Traders and Goyal Traders, suspected of evading Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Preliminary assessments suggest that the two firms may have evaded taxes totaling approximately Rs 5 crore. As part of the ongoing investigation, Varun Goyal was arrested on Tuesday by the GST enforcement team.
Sources within the department revealed that further inquiry is underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged tax evasion and to identify any other involved parties.
