TEXARKANA, Texas – A 23-year-old man is in custody after Texarkana police discovered him asleep inside a van parked on the Liberty-Eylau High School football field early Tuesday morning.

Jarod Welch was found behind the wheel after multiple calls reported the odd scene. When questioned, Welch told officers he had no idea how he ended up on the school’s track—an area that is typically inaccessible to vehicles without deliberate effort.

Officers soon learned Welch had outstanding misdemeanor warrants. A subsequent search revealed methamphetamine in his pocket and two stolen Amazon packages inside the van. Investigators linked the packages to a porch theft reported the night before.

Welch was taken into custody and booked into the Bi-State Jail. He now faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Theft of Mail, along with the outstanding warrants. His bond has been set at $15,000.
