NIGERIA — Timilehin Oyedele Godwin, a physically challenged shoemaker who gained public admiration in 2023, has been arrested and accused of orchestrating an elaborate online romance scam.
Popularly known as “Timi,” the 22-year-old went viral last year after sharing his desire to find a wife on social media. However, his reputation came crashing down after a woman, Oluwadamilola Oluwasheteminire, accused him of stealing her identity and using her photos to deceive men online.
Investigators discovered that Timi had allegedly been running the scam since 2022, creating fake accounts on platforms like TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, using Oluwadamilola’s photos to impersonate her. He reportedly sent Google-sourced nude images to reinforce the deception and lure male victims.
In a video confession dated September 23, 2025, Timi admitted to creating fake profiles using names like Damilolag279 on TikTok and Adebola Gloria on Facebook, and operating through WhatsApp number 07081811101.
“I catfished people using Oluwadamilola’s pictures and Google images. I am deeply sorry to her and everyone I misled,” he stated.
He also acknowledged dismissing earlier confrontations about the scam, falsely claiming he was trying to protect Oluwadamilola’s reputation.
Despite his apology, the revelation has stirred outrage online. Many expressed disappointment, especially those who once supported his shoemaking business and viewed him as an inspiration.

Authorities confirmed that Timi was rearrested and compelled to issue a public apology as investigations into his digital footprint continue.
