Six Women Arraigned for Alvarado ICE Detention Center Officer Shooting

WICHITA COUNTY — Six women were arraigned Tuesday on federal charges connected to the July 4, 2025 shooting of a police officer at the Prairieland Detention Center, an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. The detainees are currently held at the Wichita County Jail under federal custody.

The women arrested and booked on Sept. 23, 2025, include:

Savanna Batten (Joshua)

Joy Gibson (Dallas)

Maricela Rueda (Fort Worth)

Elizabeth Soto (Fort Worth)

Lynette Sharp (Watauga)

Rebecca Morgan (Dallas)

Federal court documents describe the event as an “ambush-style shooting” during what authorities termed a “peaceful protest turned shooting.” The incident began with reports of vandalism, including cars spray-painted with anti-immigration slogans. When officers arrived, one was shot in the neck but survived.

Fifteen people have been arrested on federal charges related to the incident. Batten, Gibson, Rueda, Soto, Sharp, and Morgan appeared in federal court in Fort Worth on Sept. 22 for arraignment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
