Infant Killed in Shooting Near Cobb County Motel; Suspect in Custody

A tragic incident unfolded Tuesday night in Cobb County, Georgia, as a 9-month-old girl was fatally shot near a local motel. According to authorities, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene after officers responded to a 911 call from the child’s mother around 8 p.m. at the Budgetel Inns and Suites – Atlanta Galleria Stadium.

Cobb County Police confirmed the baby was beyond lifesaving measures upon arrival. The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.

One anonymous witness speculated that the intended target was someone else, not the child, stating, “It’s sad because I just met the baby, and the baby was really precious.”

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Ladarrius Brown, who now faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently held without bond at the Cobb County Jail.

Witnesses described the child as joyful and beloved in the community. “She brings joy to my life,” said Sasha Murphy, a local resident. Dessi Huntington, who often babysat the girl, expressed deep sorrow: “I blame myself… I always hear her little squeals, her little laugh.”

Investigators revisited the scene Wednesday to collect further evidence, including fingerprints and photos of bullet holes in motel windows. Police indicate that more arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.

Court records reveal that Brown has a prior criminal history involving theft, battery, weapons offenses, and loitering.
