HALL COUNTY, Texas — David Martinez, 41, of Slaton, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in prison for second-degree felony theft. Court documents reveal Martinez stole nearly $100,000 from the Bob Wills Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the legacy of a local music legend.

Martinez was arrested in Hall County and indicted on May 31, 2023. He pled guilty on August 24, 2023, and was ordered to pay restitution totaling $97,235.73.

District Attorney Luke Inman condemned the theft, saying, “It’s heartbreaking to see someone steal from the very volunteers who give so much of their time and effort to honor a local legend with such an amazing annual event.”

Despite being on probation for over two years, Martinez failed to repay the stolen funds, according to testimony.
