MANHATTAN, KS — A 22-year-old Manhattan man, Luke Patrick Johnson, was sentenced Monday to nearly 11 years in prison after being convicted on multiple charges stemming from two separate cases.
Johnson received a combined sentence of 10 years and 10 months from Riley County District Court Judge John Bosch. His convictions include involuntary manslaughter, distribution of fentanyl, distribution of marijuana, and possession of fentanyl. He accepted a plea deal with the state on August 18.
The involuntary manslaughter charge is linked to the 2023 overdose death of 18-year-old Haley George. During sentencing, several members of George’s family gave emotional statements, expressing their pain and heartbreak that Haley lost her life while Johnson would still have a future.
Johnson was also convicted of distributing both fentanyl and marijuana, as well as possessing fentanyl at the time of his arrest.
The sentencing reflects growing concerns in Kansas and across the nation over the deadly impact of fentanyl, especially among young people.
