Daniel Optis Arrested for First-Degree Murder in Millington Shooting

Man shot in head dies; suspect charged with murder and firearm offenses

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) — A man is dead after a shooting in Millington on Monday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 11:06 a.m. to a report of a shooting on Bonnie Brae Drive. Upon arrival, officers found 69-year-old Randall Taylor with a gunshot wound to the head.

Taylor was rushed to Methodist North Hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Daniel Optis, 36, was identified as the suspect. After fleeing the scene, he was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.

Optis faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony.

The investigation remains ongoing.
