ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — A domestic disturbance escalated into a tense standoff Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of 34-year-old Michael Haight, Albany Police say.
Officers were called to a residence on Albany Street near Broadway around 9:10 p.m. after reports of a domestic-related incident. Upon arrival, police learned that Haight had been involved in a verbal argument with a woman, which escalated into a physical assault. He allegedly punched, choked, and threw the victim to the floor.
When officers attempted to make contact, Haight reportedly emerged from a bedroom and threw a knife at them before barricading himself back inside.

After unsuccessful attempts to negotiate, officers deployed a chemical agent, prompting Haight to exit the bedroom, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention. Haight was transported to Albany Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
He is facing several charges, including:
Two counts of Attempted Assault 2nd Degree
