Thai Cyber Police have arrested Ratchapak, a 35-year-old woman from Nakhon Ratchasima, accused of orchestrating a fraudulent investment scheme that targeted a 70-year-old victim, resulting in a financial loss of nearly 2 million baht. The suspect, pretending to be a Shopee employee, convinced the elderly victim to invest in a fake online platform that promised profits from reselling goods at a higher price.

The arrest, led by Deputy Commissioner Jirawat Payungtham of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), followed an investigation revealing that the suspect used a fake website to solicit investments. The platform lured the victim into transferring funds on three separate occasions, each time promising returns that never materialized. Police apprehended Ratchapak in Samut Prakan province under a warrant issued by the Taling Chan Criminal Court on November 7.

During questioning, Ratchapak admitted to opening an online bank account via the Play Store but denied knowingly participating in criminal activities. The police have detained her for further investigation.

The CCIB has emphasized its commitment to pursuing those responsible for fraudulent activities targeting the public.
