In a major crackdown on narcotics in the capital, Delhi Police have arrested five individuals, including Anil (50), the alleged kingpin of a vast heroin distribution network. The operation led to the seizure of heroin worth Rs6.25 crore, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Anil, who had been on the radar of multiple enforcement agencies such as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the Special Cell, and the Delhi Police Crime Branch, was finally arrested on September 8. He was caught in Vishnu Garden, Tilak Nagar, with nearly 2 kg of heroin in his possession.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami, Anil had been running a narcotics supply chain for over two decades and had previously been convicted in two cases. A known repeat offender, he has a total of 13 cases against him, including a robbery dating back to 1998.
The investigation began on August 29, when police apprehended Afsana (23) in the Bhalswa Dairy area with 300 grams of heroin. Her interrogation led authorities to Burari, where a couple—Narender (37) and his wife Jyoti (35)—were caught with an additional 712 grams.
Further leads directed police to Santosh (38), arrested on September 1 in Nihal Vihar with 97 grams of heroin. Santosh, with multiple prior charges including those under the NDPS and Excise Acts, provided critical information that ultimately led police to Anil.
Assets traced to Anil from drug money include four flats in Delhi, a commercial property in Khyala, a 300-square-yard plot in Rohtak (Haryana), and multiple vehicles. Police estimate his total assets at over Rs10 crore.
A case has been registered at Bhalswa Dairy police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The investigation remains ongoing.
