Barbara Mathis Charged with Murder in 2024 Assault Case

Victim John Nichols died 10 months after the alleged attack

CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Nearly a year after an alleged assault, a Cincinnati woman is now facing murder charges.

Barbara Mathis has been indicted in connection with the attack on John Nichols, which occurred on September 27, 2024. Nichols ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 25, 2025.

In response to his death, Mathis has now been formally charged with murder and felonious assault, according to local authorities.

The Cincinnati Police Department is actively investigating the case and has urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at (513)-352-3542.

As of now, further details about the motive or the nature of the assault have not been released.
