A 19-year-old man, Brayan Galiono Hernandez, has been arrested in connection with a commercial burglary in Hicksville that occurred between the evening of November 8, 2024, and the morning of November 9, 2024. The incident involved the theft of a red 1995 Mercedes Benz from Precision Auto Care, located at 16 Jerusalem Avenue.
The suspect gained access to the business by knocking down an exterior security fence and entering through an unlocked garage door. After stealing the vehicle, Hernandez fled the scene, but police quickly determined he was responsible for the crime.
Further investigation revealed Hernandez had been involved in multiple vehicular accidents while driving the stolen car near 1st Street and Frevert Place. When confronted by a male witness, Hernandez assaulted him by striking him in the head with a bottle, causing a large laceration.
Hernandez fled the scene on foot and sought refuge in a nearby construction site. He was eventually located by officers and confronted while exiting the house. As he approached the officers, Hernandez swung a 4 ft. level at them. An officer deployed an Electronic Control Device (ECD) and successfully apprehended him. Hernandez was found to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
The victim who was assaulted was transported to a hospital for treatment, and Hernandez was also taken for medical evaluation.
Hernandez has been charged with multiple offenses, including Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree for the initial burglary, and a variety of additional charges related to his assault on the witness and subsequent actions, including Assault 2nd and 3rd Degree, Menacing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and several other charges.
He was arraigned on Saturday, November 10, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
