PENSACOLA, Fla. — A 37-year-old woman has been found guilty of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm in connection to a May 2024 shooting in Pensacola.

A jury convicted Zirconium Dees on Tuesday under Florida’s 10-20-Life statute. Sentencing is scheduled for September 10.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of May 6, 2024, near the intersection of I and Intendencia streets.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, a 911 call reported shots fired and a person rummaging through a car while a victim lay injured in the street. First responders found the victim with a gunshot wound to the head and rushed her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation revealed that Dees and the victim had been in an intimate relationship that was ending at the time of the shooting.

The victim survived and, after emerging from a coma, described the events leading up to the attack. Both had been celebrating Cinco de Mayo at a downtown bar where Dees was ejected for fighting. The victim then drove Dees home, where a series of arguments unfolded throughout the night.

After Dees took the victim’s car keys to prevent her from leaving, the victim tried to walk home. Dees then approached her on I Street in the victim’s car. A heated argument ensued inside the vehicle.

During the confrontation, Dees brandished a .380 Ruger handgun, held it to the victim’s neck, and asked if she thought Dees would shoot her. When the victim attempted to push the gun away, Dees fired a shot to the back of the victim’s head.

Dees then removed the victim from the vehicle and left her in the roadway before fleeing the scene.

Dees remains in jail without bond pending sentencing.
