In a major breakthrough, Jaipur Police have arrested Sarvesh Kumawat, a man who posed as a senior government official and scammed at least 25 women through social media. Kumawat, who falsely claimed to be an IRS officer and Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), contacted women online, built trust with them, and extorted money by falsely claiming their accounts were under investigation.
Kumawat, in his fake persona as an IRS officer, reached out to women, especially government employees, via social media platforms. Posing as a senior government official, he would tell his victims that their accounts were under scrutiny or at risk of being blocked, demanding money urgently for resolving the issue. Exploiting their trust, he created a sense of urgency and managed to extort significant amounts from them.
The scam came to light when Kritika Goyal, a sub-inspector with the NCB, became suspicious after receiving calls from her brother and a friend, where Kumawat introduced himself as the Zonal Director of NCB and an IRS officer. Suspecting something was wrong, Goyal filed a complaint with the Vidhyadhar Nagar Police Station.
