MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. — Bryce Byrdsong, a corrections employee, was arrested on Tuesday for trafficking narcotics into the Marlboro County Adult Detention Center.
According to the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, Byrdsong faces multiple charges, including official misconduct, trafficking with an inmate, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
Deputies said the MCSO Intelligence Unit intercepted jail communications referencing drug trafficking involving a staff member. When Byrdsong arrived for duty, deputies confronted him and discovered narcotics on his person. A consent search of his vehicle revealed additional drugs.
Byrdsong, employed for one year with no prior disciplinary issues, was immediately terminated and booked into the same detention center where he worked.
Sheriff Kerry Forestal stressed the importance of public trust in law enforcement, stating, “The public places immense trust in their public safety officials, and that trust is non-negotiable. Today’s arrest makes that clear.”
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final decision on charges against Byrdsong.
