Agra police have arrested a man named Deviram for allegedly murdering his 19-year-old nephew, Rakesh, in the Malpura area last year. The accused strangled Rakesh along with another nephew, Nitya Kishore, then placed the body in a blue drum, which they set on fire in an isolated location after dousing it with petrol.
The case, which occurred on February 18, 2024, came to light after the discovery of the half-burnt body. Identification was confirmed through DNA profiling. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Sharma, Deviram was arrested on Monday, while Kishore remains at large.
Investigations revealed the motive behind the crime was anger and frustration after Rakesh allegedly took compromising photographs of Deviram’s minor daughter and used them to blackmail him. After the murder, the victim’s mobile phone was disposed of in the Khari river to erase evidence.
Deviram, a resident of Kuboolpur village under Malpura police jurisdiction, is currently in custody as police continue a detailed investigation into the incident.
