VERONA, N.Y. — A Verona woman was arrested on September 12 following an animal cruelty investigation involving malnourished horses at MC Stables.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies received a complaint on July 3 about neglected horses in the Town of Verona. Upon investigation, seventeen horses were found and evaluated by a veterinarian, with one horse euthanized due to untreated injuries.
After executing a search warrant, authorities removed the remaining horses from the stable on July 8.
The case was forwarded to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office for grand jury review. On September 11, an indictment warrant was issued for Misty Carey, 49, owner of MC Stables.
Carey faces 17 counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, along with one count of aggravated cruelty to animals.
She was held at the Oneida County Jail, arraigned on September 15, and subsequently released on her own recognizance.
