Aaron and Kara Smith Charged With Child Abuse in Maize

Owners of Cedar Creek Farm face felony abuse charges

Wichita, KS — The owners of Cedar Creek Farm and Pumpkin Patch in Maize, Kansas, have been formally charged with child abuse, according to Sedgwick County court documents filed on May 1, 2025.

Aaron Smith and Kara Smith, the couple who operate the popular local farm, are accused of abusing a child on April 19, 2025.

According to the charges:

Aaron Smith is accused of impeding the normal breathing or blood circulation of a child under 18 by applying pressure to the child’s throat, neck, or chest.

Kara Smith is charged with torturing, cruelly beating, striking, or kicking a child between the ages of 6 and 17.

Both were arrested and later released on $10,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in court on September 29.

The case has drawn local attention due to the couple’s ties to the community through their business. Authorities have not released additional details, and the investigation is ongoing.
